Custom Akai MPC 60 with Expanded Memory, OS3.10e, SCSI

“This is the legendary MPC60, with the inimitable sound and swing that changed the game for Hip Hop and Electronic music. Designed by Roger Linn (who created only this and the MPC3000) and released in 1988, it has been used by everyone from Dilla and DJ Shadow to Ron Trent, Jean-Michel Jarre and Aphex Twin.

Celebrated for its innovative design, the essential functions of the Akai MPC line have not changed since. The MPC60 is built to last, and stands out for it’s beautiful sound engine and Roger Linn interface, including the famous individual swing and shift timing per track.

As well as the warm, fat sound, the MPC60 features more ports than modern versions:

– 8 assignable audio outputs

– 4 MIDI outputs – great for controlling additional synths and drum machines.

– 2 MIDI inputs
– Send and Return FX loop

– Rock-solid MIDI clock, syncs well with DAW and other hardware

Superb condition, with some cosmetic blemishes on the original metal casing. Comes with a durable printed operation manual.

The inside has just been professionally refurbished, including all the button contacts replaced with brand new quality components, and new back-lit screen. So it’s perfect working condition, workshop tested.

This machine has the following upgrades:

– Custom solid wood side panels

– Maxed-out RAM and sample time

– OS 3.1 installed, also designed by Roger Linn for the MPC3000

– SCSI interface installed (cable, Zip disks and drive available on request)

– Heavy duty black cotton dust cover” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Akai MPC 60 with Expanded Memory, SCSI

“Classic 12-bit sampler, MIDI sequencer, and drum machine in excellent condition.

This machine is maxed out with the following upgrades:

Compact Flash (CF) Drive (inc two CF cards)
Max 1.5mb RAM (26.2 seconds sampling time)
OS 3.15 Vimana (adds features of MPC3000)
SCSI internal and external
Custom produced flight case from Swan Flight
Printed manual

Cosmetically the MPC is in excellent condition, especially given it’s age (released in 1988!). The arm rest clean and without blemishes, the plastic sides are in good condition, and there’s only minimal nicks to the body. I’ve provided a lot of photos so please review them before bidding.

Operationally the MPC works as you’d hope. The pads feel great, and the velocity sensitivity is very good. No need to change the sensor sheet. All buttons work as they should and none are broken. Some need a firmer push, but it’s minor, and if it bothers you I’ve included a full set of new tact switches for the 60 you can solder in to replace.

Screen is in good condition. It’s not the brightest but very much readable. The original type which isn’t as glaringly bright as new ones, but you can replace with that if you choose.

Also included are four EPROMS of the last official OS, Roger Linn’s 3.10 if you wish to install that. UK power cord. This model is made for the UK / EU so 230v or 240v (there’s a switch on the back). Different regions would need to use a step up converter.

I bought this on a whim, but genuinely it’s sat in its flight case ever since (I mainly use a combo of the MPC 3000 and ASR 10). But it’s a lovely sampler, that sounds great, and can be the centre of set up even today.”

Akai MPC 60

” AKAI MPC 60 MK1 SAMPLER – ORIGINAL – RARE – WORKS GREAT

This MPC 60 model 1 is mostly original. It is the very first model of MPCs ever released!

Recently upgraded the pads and sensors. She deserves someone who will take care of her and use her properly! It probably needs a new LCD. Other than that, I think it is best to use original workflow of floppies with it honestly. I am throwing in a usb floppy disk drive and a box of new floppies for you.

Not only is this an absolute rare classic beast of a machine, but it sounds absolutely amazing and will make your tracks shine!”

Akai MPC 60

“Classic MPC60 sampler. Running version 2.12.

This one has seen some action in its life, but is generally in good condition.

There is cosmetic wear to the unit. I’ve tried to picture the most prevalent markings – the two bottom front corners have the worst of the wear – I suspect it may have rubbed on a flightcase at some point. There are also two marks on the screen casing to the left, but these don’t especially interfere with the display. The buttons have yellowed over time.

I’ve tried to use all buttons in a test, and all are responsive. The pads seem responsive also, as do the two main potentiometers and contrast control. I should mention the pads have a slight smell of smoke. ” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Custom Akai MPC 60II with SCSI

“I purchased a custom painted AKAI MPC60 II overseas and kept it as a collectible.
It has a modern, austere and cool finish.

It is a one-of-a-kind item. Vintage sampler par excellence! This is a rare and hard to find full spec.
The retro feel is irresistible.
A classic machine that created the golden era of hip-hop in the 90’s!
This is a very good condition machine considering the time it was released.
12bit sound! The fat and powerful sound that only this can produce.
The sequence of the sounds has a unique groove that cannot be imitated by DAWs.
It has been maintained, so you can use it with peace of mind.

I think it is a beautiful product in good condition considering the age of the product.

All switches have been replaced, so the operation is very good.
The LCD screen has been replaced, so visibility is very good.
CF drive for easy data management.
New PAD sensor!
SCSI equipped, can be connected to an external drive.

The unit has been maintained and cleaned prior to sale.
The buttons, pad, and slider are in good condition with no defects.

Main unit (with the latest OS 3.15B, 2MB of memory, all switches have been replaced).
CF drive installed (card insertion/removal type when powered off)
CF card 2GB formatted
Power cable

Akai MPC 60 with Expanded Memory, SCSI, Floppy Emulator

” Akai MPC 60 (Original version) with upgrades.

Custom Swan flight case (this also has space for the included mains cable)
Roger Linn v3.10e operating system (EPROMS fitted)
Relatively new display with working backlight – (the classic style backlit LCD, not the glaringly bright modern type)
Internal SCSI upgrade (fitted)
SCSI CF card drive (replacement of the 3.5″ floppy drive)
CF card included – formatted as 26 disk partitions (named SCSI drives A to Z)
Memory expansion fitted (26.2 seconds sample time. v3.10e also allows a doubling of the sample time with a trade off in audio quality)
The padded wrist rest is still in great condition
Original plastic side panels (these often get damaged and a tell-tale sign of less-loved MPC60s is having 3rd party wooden panels fitted)
All knobs, buttons, sliders, inputs / outputs and pads are working fine
Printed & stapled copy of v3.10e manual (.pdf manual available here: https://www.rogerlinndesign.com/support/support-mpc60-version-3-10 )

Imperfections to mention:

Yellowing of the white buttons (JazzCat can refurb these if you want them pure white again)
Slight marking / wear across some areas of the edges – see pictures of the rear and just above the CF drive
Please remember that this original model of the MPC 60 was manufactured from 1988 to 1991 so all of the original parts and casing are at least 30 years old

Note: Although this MPC 60 comes with a flight case I will not post it. ” Click here to visit listing on eBay
