“It’s studio clear out time and here we have the holy grail of old school samplers – the AKAI MPC60 Mk1. I bought it in a fit of gear lust but it doesn’t get the use it deserves unfortunately.
It’s in great condition for its age with a few marks here and there as you can see on the pictures. It comes with the rare UK plug that is hard to get hold off.
The unit has the memory expansion fitted taking the sample time up to a healthy 26.2 seconds of pure 12 bit thump.
It also has the very latest os fitted, Vimana 3.15b to be specific which has a superior list of features over the last linn os. With the audio compression feature you can compress the samples in memory to half size thus giving you double the sample time so your 26.2 seconds becomes 52.4 seconds.
For a full OS feature list just google vimana 3.15b.
It had the backlight foil replaced a couple of years ago and it is still very bright for when you are working in low light conditions.
The disk drive was replaced with a reconditioned drive in 2018 used little since if at all.
The build quality of the first 2 linn mpc’s are really something to behold.. they feel solid and well made and this is the reason they have lasted the test of time unlike many of the newer cheap made plastic mpc’s which seem to just fall to bits from my experience.
The sound is special…. your drums will be sounding fat and punchy and you can always pitch samples into it similar to the sp12 /1200 if you want to add even more grit and extend your timing.” Click here to search for MPCs on eBay

” This auction is for a used Akai MPC60 II Roger Linn being sold As-is. Although it retains some main functionality, it has several issues with it including the following:
-floppy doesn’t work
-backlight on screen is out
– #5 button on the number pad sometimes you
have to press extra times, same thing with play/record/record-stop
buttons, most of the time those seemed to work fine, but sometimes you have to press them multiple times
– the pads can’t guarantee they work like a new mpc, same type of thing
responsiveness, some pads seem fine, one or two seem to double hit
sometimes, they respond about as expected when you hold them down at
different pressure, and they do respond when hitting at different
velocity but not like new,
– volume knob or headphone jack is scratchy idk which one but you hear static while adjusting,
– sampling loudness switch on the back you have to basically wiggle it
for the middle level so that the input comes in correctly, low and
high pretty sure were fine but the middle would still sound like it
was on low so you’d have to move it a little til it found its spot
– data control knob will sink in you have to pull it out and twist
at the same time for it to work
– generally physically its off white, got lots of dirt in various spots even a little rust on the
bottom by where the play/stop etc buttons are
– no issues that i know of with the outputs, used them several times but still no guarantees, as-is
– midi was fine,
– recording in, mapping sounds out by velocity and pitch, editing by
step and general sequencing functions worked fine as far I used it

“Selling my old MPC60, it’s been in use for years and with that comes signs of age:
The paint is not as fresh so it has scratches, scuffs and very light rusting in a few spots.
The SIDE SLIDES both are missing as this was being used in a Rack-mount setup.
The LCD is visible but the backlight is slowly giving out, easily fixed for less than $60 on ebay as there are replacement backlights available.
Some of the tact buttons need extra pressing for them to register but they all work nonetheless.
If someone wants to work on this and restore it, it will be easy to do for them:
Replace the tact switches
Replace Backlight
Find some side slides.
Overall the synth works very well, I have not had an issue working on it, all 16 pads work amazingly, the sampling, sync, all outputs, midi, disk drive and SCSI work as I use them everyday.” Click here to search for MPCs on eBay

“AKAI MPC60 Mk1 Perfect condition and a legendary piece with the ultimate sound. I have fitted it with a Nalbantov USB drive which is amazing for storing all the library but I also have the
original floppy drive if you want restore this back to the original system ever.
It has been fitted with the full capacity ram so you have the full 26.2 secs sampling time.
I purchased this from Germany last year and I have now finished the project I purchased it for, It’s a beautiful machine with the vintage legendary 12bit sound that has been used by so many greats in the industry.
It is priced fairly to reflect the upgrades such as the full RAM 26.2 secs and USB drive that holds up to 100 virtual floppy disks.”
